Seiho Chris Preist is a senior monk from the British Sangha.

Chris began practice with Nanshin Nancy Amphoux in 1989 and was ordained as a monk in 1992 by Shogen Jean Baby.

He is co-director of Bristol Zen Dojo and the author of a large number of recorded talks, which can be accessed and downloaded from the Study tab of the Bristol Zen Dojo website.

He is a regular leader on Bristol Zen Dojo’s programme of Mixlr channel broadcasts. See the channel’s Events page for more details.

Chris is currently the committee chair of IZAUK.

Guest teacher: Guy Mokuho Mercier

Guy Mokuho Mercier from the Lanau Zen Centre will direct zazen followed by a Mondo on Saturday afternoon.

The Lanau Zen Centre is the outcome of the project of the Tenbôrin Association founded by Guy Mokuhō Mercier and some disciples and friends. Situated in the Cantal region of central France,  it is near the villages of Lanau-Neuvéglise (near Saint-Flour) next to the river Truyère.

It is a communal and inter-generational place of life where all residents and visitors follow a rhythm of daily life which includes meditation (zazen) and inter-relationships consistent  with the teachings of Buddhism.

Details

In view of the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions on groups assembling, this year’s IZAUK Winter Sesshin will be broadcast online using a combination of Zoom and Mixlr broadcast channels.

To take part you will need:

  • a mobile phone, tablet or computer
  • a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed
  • a zafu, bench or chair
  • comfortable clothing
  • some experience of zazen
  • a completed registration form

Programme

Unless otherwise indicated, all sessions will use a dedicated, private Mixlr broadcast channel

Friday 19th February

8.00 pm – 9.30 pm

Two 40 minute Zazen periods, with kinhin between. Followed by chanting Four Vows. Directed by Seiho Chris Preist

 

Saturday 20th February

8.00 am – 9.45 am

Two 40 minute Zazen periods, with kinhin between. Followed by ceremony. Directed by Seiho Chris Preist

10.00 am – 10.45 am

Zoom coffee and Chosan. Led by Seiho Chris Preist

11.30 am – 1.00 pm (approx)

40 minutes of Zazen, followed by Teisho. Directed by Seiho Chris Preist

4.30 pm – 6.00 pm (approx)

40 minutes of Zazen, followed by Mondo. Directed by  Guy Mokuho Mercier

8.00 pm – 9.30 pm

We invite donations from those registering for the event. We suggest £50, but you may make any donation – or none. No-one should feel unable to participate owing to lack of funds.
