This is a one-day practical workshop on How and why we chant the sutras. On fulfilling the role of Ino/Kokyo – the Chant Leader.
Workshop led by Zen Nun, Hōsei Lana Berrington, from the North London dojo.
The day will begin and end with zazen, workshops in morning and afternoon will deal with sutra chanting and the “ino” or “kokyo” role of leading the sutra chanting.
In a monastery, often the chant leader is one of the more senior monks/nuns and well practiced – but in our dojos, in daily practice, many of us find ourselves in this role having had little guidance. This workshop will address pronunciation, intonation, style and form followed in our style of chanting.
The format will be flexible and may include other ceremonial roles as well . The afternoon will end with some sharing and questions/answers about Lana’s experience doing ango in Japan
