IZAUK Sesshin in Sheringham Led by Senior teacher Taiun Jean-Pierre Faure

About the Teacher:

Taiun Jean-Pierre Faure, born in 1945, is the father of three children. He holds a PhD in physics and has been practising zazen since 1977.  He was ordained a monk by master Deshimaru in 1981. He created the Marrakech Dojo, then became head of the Toulon Dojo. From 1997 to 2002 he was the head of La Gendronniere Temple. 20 years after the death of Master Taisen Deshimaru, he received Dharma transmission from master Dônin Minamisawa Zenji (Head of Eiheiji Temple in Japan) and became a certified teacher of the Soto Zen School. He is the founding abbot of Kanshoji Temple in La Coquille, near Limoges, France: www.kanshoji.org.

Sesshin Details:

  • Arrival: Friday 2nd February, 2024 from 4pm
  • Departure: Monday 5th February, 2024 – AFTER 3pm after clean up. Please plan on staying for clean-up.  We will need your help. It is possible to stay Monday night and leave instead on Tuesday morning before 10am.

Venue:

Sheringham Youth Hostel, 1 Cremer’s Drift, Sheringham, Norfolk, NR26 8HX.  The Youth Hostel is situated off the A149 Coast Road in Sheringham, behind St. Joseph’s roman Catholic church, a five minute walk from the train station.

How to get there:

Take the train directly to Sheringham. Trains from Norwich run once an hour. www.greateranglia.co.uk

What to bring:

Dark, loose-fitting clothes for zazen, and clothes for samu (work in the kitchen, cleaning or gardening). indoor slippers/shoes. A zafu and zafuton(mat) if you have one. (some spares available)

Bowls, chopsticks and a spoon and a cloth to wrap them in (if possible a set of three nesting bowls). Your own mug .

Recommended: Friends of IZAUK – £195, Non-members – £215

Unwaged: Friends of IZAUK – £140,  Non-members – £160

A £20 discount will be deducted from these prices if you book before midnight on 19th January with full payment or a £25 deposit.  Please note that deposits are normally non-refundable.
