Sesshins, zen days, zen half days and sewing sessions
IZAUK and its member groups hold regular events including
sesshins - zen practice retreats
"Sesshin" means 'to touch the mind' - it is an opportunity to strengthen your zen practice in a traditionally structured format with other members of the sangha and is an excellent opportunity to have direct contact with one of our senior dharma teachers.
IZAUK sesshins are open to everybody regardless of prior experience.
Our sesshins consist of periods of zazen and kinhin (seated and walking zen meditation - about 6 hours per day), samu (work - such as cleaning or washing up), formal meals, teisho (dharma talks), mondo (formal question and answer periods with the teacher), and opportunities to speak with the teacher privately.
zen days and half days - opportunities to practise zazen with others
and sewing sessions - retreats where zazen is practised and additional focus is placed on learning and sewing rakusus and kesas.
Check the Events Calendar for details on forthcoming events, and check this space for a more detailed description of these events, as this website continues to develop.
